Reaching

Reaching

In a Reaching session you experience being deeply held, nurtured and adored. Many of us didn't get these needs adequately met as children and we still crave this as adults. Perhaps people tell you that you're too needy, feel anxious, or have trouble sleeping. Reaching is a great way to help regulate your nervous system, sleep better, and feel great with the release of oxytocin. 

 

Recently a new student who has years of trauma and an activated nervous system came to for a Reaching Session. Despite doing meditation practice and studying some trauma modalities, his nervous system was still in a constant state of shaking. I held him in my arms like a baby giving him the nurturing and calming he needed as an infant that he has spent a lifetime trying to find. Needs like this are primal and simply trying to push them away doesn't work. Experiencing his need being met as an adult helps reset the nervous system and undo his abandonment from the past. What a gift to hold him in such gentle sacred space and finally give him what he needed.

Reaching is wonderful to help to heal attachment issues specifically in adults who have needs that weren't met as children. If we're honest, most of us didn't get all our needs met as children. It is unhealthy to project these needs onto your friends or lovers. Reaching creates a non-sexual space to be held and have these needs honored, supported, and resourced instead of trying to push them away or have them come out in inappropriate ways. I have seen it work wonders for trauma survivors.
